“We can study the world through almost anything”
(Dyck, Lecture 3 High Tech High School, 2013)
So why don’t we?
After evaluating the information we have discussed thus far in Education 430, I have discovered that the current definitions of teaching and learning are being challenged and reshaped. Education is moving away from lecture based learning where teachers are the only source of knowledge towards a system that identifies learners as individuals and accepts a diverse definition of knowledge development.
This course challenges the notion of schools as factories and teachers as class monitors required to pour information into the vessel minds of students but rather that teachers are responsible to help students construct meaningful knowledge based on their individual experiences. The most important thing to remember is that students are individuals and teachers are responsible to teach the entire student, not just to teach the curriculum.
